Bill was traveling from Rochester, PA to explore the bay here in Erie. He is a repeat client of Captain Mark’s and knows all about how great the smallmouth bass fishing is on Lake Erie. The start of the trip was slow but we ended really strong.
Captain Mark focused in on the bay which produced the most fish. They were holding in 5-6 foot of water. Most of the fish were caught throwing tubes, drop shots and jerk baits. Bill landed 25 smallmouth bass and had his best day on Lake Erie ever. It is always a blast when you get to land three trophy bass weighing 5.82, 6.00 and 5.78 pounds.
That’s what you call an excellent smallmouth bass fishing trip. Lake Erie is one of the only places you can experience that. Bill is looking forward to his next adventure out on the lake.
When Lake Erie is fishing well and the bass are spawning, you have to come catch one of these amazing smallmouths. Jim and his two sons Garret and Matthew gained wind of the action and decided they were going to adventure to Erie for a trip of a lifetime. It was their first time fishing on Lake Erie and they were in-store for another amazing trip.
The main focus on this trip was the bay again which started out slow due to the conditions. Once they located the bass, it was game on. You did not have to leave the bay. The wind was blowing making it very difficult to fish the main lake. When you are fishing the bay, if you focus on waters from Parry’s monument to Niagara boat launch you will have the best of luck. Stay in the 3 to 7 foot range which is where they are currently located.
Jim caught the biggest bass of the day weighing in at 6.09 pounds while Trophy Smallmouth Bass Fishing. His two sons both caught fish over 4 pounds. They had a fantastic time out on the water and you can’t beat the action that Lake Erie is producing right now. Captain Mark is looking forward to the next opportunity to fish with this awesome family again in the future.
Don’t miss out on this action while it is still hot. Neil and Bruce surely could not especially with fishing with Captain Mark last year around this time. They were traveling from the Pittsburgh area. Fishing was really good yet again on this morning trip.
Our main focus was still the bay from the same areas as last time out on the water. Fish are moving shallow and if you fish from 3 to 6 foot, you will increase the odds of catching more fish. Neil and Bruce crushed the smallmouth bass putting over 50 in the boat. The smallest fish weighed 3.5 pounds.
Lake Erie is the land of Personal Bests. Neil and Bruce both landed their personal bests with a 5.5 and a 5.1 pound smallmouth bass. They will continue to move up and spawn on these flats. Throw some of the mentioned baits and you will land yourself a lunker.

Afternoon Fishing changed the conditions for the better. We can’t express enough how exciting this smallmouth bass fishing is on Lake Erie.
Antonio and his brother Matthew came out fishing in the afternoon after that great trip. They were traveling from Maryland looking for their personal best smallmouth bass.
Overcast skies did not stop the bass from biting as everyone was landing big fish. Antonio landed the biggest fish of the day weighing 6.24 pounds as seen above in main cover. Trophy Bass can be caught this time of year on Lake Erie. Several other monster bass came to the boat including a 5.65, 5.5, 5.25, and a 5 pounder. They had just absolutely amazing day fishing on Lake Erie.
Water temperatures ranged from 59-62 degrees which was perfect for spawning. The Bay to Shades beach on the main lake was the range we fished. Key depths were 4-10 feet of water which produced the best bite throwing jerk baits, drop shots, ned rigs and galidas grubs.
